COACHES CORNER

From Corry head coach Skip Laird

The 2008-2009 season has come and gone, and with it many memories of team and individual accomplishments.  Another record tying year for wins @ 17-3, our 500th victory as a program while on our KSA duals trip, a trip which our wrestlers and parents will never forget!    The 2009-2010 season plans are already well under way with several things to look forward to, such as; new warm-ups and a new varsity mat.  We want to welcome Coach Mark Eisert, former head coach of Central Tech as one of our varsity asst. coaches, who along with Coach Curtis Harrington will asst. me as we head into our season.  Coach Andy Fourspring will be a Level I volunteer as well as Brandon Edwards and Chris Bailey (4th place AAA 160lb. 2001)  Coach Barnett will head our MS program in his 4th season.

Our newly purchased (7) sectional mat was rolled out by our staff and friends during an in-service day and we look forward to seeing it in action at our own Corry Pool tournament Friday and Sat.  Dec. 18th and 19th.  The new mat is a Doll mar light weight design that each section can be handled by one or two persons rather easily.  Our new warm-ups are literally days away from arriving and I look forward to seeing the new Asics design on our guys.

Congratulations go out to Corry Alumni and AAA 145lb. state-runner up, 1996, Shane McChesney who has been named head coach at McDowell HS.  Shane, his wife Cheryl, and two children give us a sense of pride and achievement for our former wrestlers.

We have another large group of wrestlers who have gone through the physicals and weight assessments.  Our team looks to top over 30 starting November 20, 2009.  I look forward to “talking” to you throughout the year.
